Meet Me At The Overland Cafe
Gather 'round everybody, it’s time to talk about one of my favorite brunch spots!
Back in December 2021 I grabbed one of my best gals and we bounced to The Overland Cafe. This is the type of place where if you drive too fast you’ll miss it. After driving past for a few Sundays, you begin to notice the line almost wrapped around the corner. Then you start to wonder, “what is that place?”, it’s The Overland! I started going here years ago and have always had an amazingly cozy time.
We were masked up with our Vax cards and ready to go. Our waitress was as pleasant as a peach just like always. While waiting to be served, I spotted one of the first waitresses to serve me all those years ago. I was so happy to see her, and I really hope she is enjoying her time there. The aura of The Overland is what makes the experience worth the wait. I don’t know about some of you guys, but I love when I see other people having a jolly old time. Something about that atmospheric happiness is contagious. On this visit, there was a table to my right of about 4-5 friends having belly laughs and refilling their mimosas for each other, we love to see it.
Over at our table we decided to order the Unlimited Champagne Brunch which is $12.99 per person w/an entree, talk about a deal. You have to skedaddle in 90 minutes per Health Dept. but I’m grateful for that because I could have easily drank my weight in mimosas. For my eats, I ordered the Nashville Style Fried Chicken Sandwich, which is adorn with a brioche bun, harissa mayo, coleslaw, and pickles. You have the choice between Hot or Mild and I’m sorry to disappoint a few of you but I had to go with Mild, otherwise my heartburn would cause a heartbreak.
One of my favorite things about this dish is that it comes as sliders, so the chicken cutlets are destined to be extra crispy and full of flavor. The crisp from the chicken combined with the crunch from the coleslaw is unmatched. I am a huge fan of any super delicious sauce or dressing, and the harissa mayo did not disappoint. The distribution was just enough so it wasn’t messy to eat, and everything was evenly coated and scrumptious down to the last bite. From what I remember the mayo wasn’t unbearable spicy but it definitely had a pop & a kick to it which helped amplify the “Nashville” that was fried into the chicken.
In the end we clinked our glasses and had our own belly laughs. It feels so wholesome to get with an old friend and try to puzzle together current events, sharing embarrassing stories, and drunkenly confess platonic love to each other. I hope for many more moments like this over amazing dishes and deliciously fruity drinks.
